“Smeralda Holding for the community” is the programme of free initiatives for education, work, sport, leisure and environmental protection through which Smeralda Holding, the company owned by Qatar Holding, sets out and promotes projects for the sustainable development of the local area, contributing to the well-being of the community in which it operates , favouring local employment and investing in skills, personal growth and education of the citizens.
The numerous initiatives that form part of “Smeralda Holding for the Community” include free language courses for the residents of Arzachena and Olbia organised by the “Smeralda Language Academy”, which have become a highly anticipated event. Not simply a course, but a veritable “training programme” set out in accordance with the specific requirements of each participant. A high-profile experience that also guarantees attendees to be able to continue with their studies, increasing their level and knowledge of the language.
As of 15 February 2021, the “Smeralda Language Academy” will be ready once again to welcome students to its virtual classrooms, open to residents in the municipalities of Arzachena and Olbia with a new and richer range of courses.
Online English courses will recommence for adults and children from the 2nd to 5th years of primary school. The courses, which will have a duration of 20 hours and will be carried out via e-learning, will be subdivided by level (from beginner to advanced) on the basis of the initial language skills of the participants. This edition is dedicated to both those who took part in the courses in November and December 2020, and who will be able to move forward with their language studies, as well as new participants interested in taking advantage of the opportunity, for a maximum of 50 new participants.
The programme will also see a second edition of French courses, this time held online, following the success of the first edition.
This year will also see the beginning of German lessons in response to the many requests received.
The huge success and demand for a new edition of the “Smeralda Language Academy” is undoubtedly down to the quality of the teaching. Organised in collaboration with The English School, the courses are held by qualified mother tongue teachers who have teaching certification. The English School is an authorised centre for exams from the Trinity College of London, an organisation accredited by the Ministry of Public Education.
Above all in this historical moment, in which the pandemic has changed daily habits and future prospects, Smeralda Holding feels it is more important than ever to continue to propose initiatives dedicated to the community. The new challenges set by COVID, such as the impossibility to organise live activities, has not hindered the Group’s commitment to social issues, and the initiatives are moving forward with the adoption of e-learning methods, which were already tested last Spring and this Autumn, allowing more than 200 participants to take advantage of the courses despite the limits imposed by the pandemic. Despite the use of online and e-learning tools in this particular period, Smeralda Holding remains hopeful that 2021 will see the return of live initiatives from the “Smeralda Holding for the Community” initiatives, considering that support for the community has always played a key role in the Group’s activities.
Participation in the English courses is free of charge for residents of Arzachena and Olbia, and the limited number of places will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Enrolments will be open until Friday 12 February.
